In the lively and charming neighborhood of Sa Gerreria, in the heart of Palma de Mallorca, there is a place that is more than just a bar: it is a corner full of history, culture, and community that, over the years, has managed to reinvent itself without losing its essence. Bar Flexas, which has witnessed the transformation of the neighborhood since its opening, is now a symbol of social life and a welcoming refuge for those looking for a place to feel at home.
The originis
Bar Flexas opened its doors in 1944, although according to some sources its origins may date as far back as the early 20th century. This bar, which was a meeting point for the residents of Palma in its early years, has kept its license active for decades, withstanding the challenges of time and adapting to the changing dynamics of the neighborhood and the city.
Vestiges of a bygone era, when in 2004 Xavi de las Heras, Pepa Charro, and Fernando Estrella discovered Flexas, the place had been closed for years but still emitted its old charm. The scent of aged wood and cigarette smoke seemed to warn, along with the astonished looks of the curious pedestrian, that starting a project here in what was then Palma’s Chinatown was madness. Nevertheless, the three partners, attracted by the charm of the place, decided to join hands and move forward together. Upon entering, they found a venue where time seemed to have stood still: liquor bottles still full, refrigerators stocked, and even a coffee cup on the counter. As if the previous owner had finished the day with the intention of reopening the next. Like a premonition, this almost magical encounter with the past marked the beginning of a new venue where history and modernity would coexist in perfect balance and harmony.
